Personal Statement:
Ali Beydoun, a Senior Counsel at Carr Maloney, focuses his practice in the areas of complex litigation, civil rights, employment law and mass tort matters. Ali’s representative matters include:

  • Persuading the U.S. District Court in a toxic mold case to strike the plaintiff's expert witness because the expert failed to satisfy the Daubert standard for such testimony. The Court then dismissed the case because the plaintiff lacked expert testimony to prove an essential element of the case.
  • Defending a magazine publisher in a First Amendment case involving the right to print a poultry magazine in the face of allegations that the magazine incites illegal conduct by its subscribers and violated consumer protection laws.
  • Representing a U.S. citizen detained by ICE officials, despite the government agency's lack of jurisdiction over U.S. citizens. Ali challenged the government's position that his client was deportable.
  • Representing the widow of a foreign national who brought an action under the Alien Tort Statute in the US courts.

Ali is originally from New York but he started his practice as a public defender for the State of New Mexico, defending clients in criminal matters ranging from juvenile violations to death penalty cases. Ali gained invaluable experience handling dozens of difficult and complex jury and bench trials. Later, he worked with the litigation and environmental practice groups of a large D.C. law firm, assisting with complex litigation in state and federal courts all over the United States. Some of Ali's reported cases include Bancoult v. McNamara, 445 F.3d 427 (D.C. Cir. 2006); Laura Gonzalez-Vera, et al. v. Townley, et al., 449 F.3d 1260 (D.C. Cir. 2006); Young, et al., v. Burton, et al., 567 F.Supp.2d 121 (D.C.Cir. 2008); and Donohoe v. Bonneville Int'l Corp., 602 F.Supp.2d 1 (D.C. Cir. 2009). Ali has written articles and lectured on a variety of legal topics pertaining to his practice areas. These articles include Preemption at Forefront of Product Liability in 2009, Law 360, December 2008, and The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 - How Companies Can Plan Ahead and Avoid Risk, Product Safety & Liability, Vol. 37, No. 30, August 3, 2009.
