Personal Statement:
Ed Krill has been practicing health and hospital law for more than 35 years.
He counsels healthcare providers and professionals on a variety of issues,
including credentialing, labor and employment matters and government regulation.
Ed's work also includes advising physicians and other healthcare providers.
He is well versed in Medicare regulations, ERISA, and managed care arrangements
such as HMOs, PPOs and IPAs, accreditation standards and licensure.
Prior to joining the firm, Ed served from 1982 to 1991 as in-house counsel for the Washington Hospital Center. While at the hospital, Ed was responsible for legal services arising from contracts between physicians and WHC, reimbursement issues, employment and union matters, managed care contracts, billing and coding, and the reorganization of patient revenue-generating activities by employed physicians.
Ed has served as special counsel to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, assisting in establishing its third-party billing and collection program. He has assisted a number of physicians in selling their practices, forming partnerships, negotiating business agreements, complying with Medicare billing requirements and limitations on referral income and maintaining relations with managed care plans.
In 1978, Ed was selected as Attorney for the Center for Health Sciences of the University of Wisconsin and returned to his home state to address the legal issues arising from the State's teaching hospital, the medical faculty practice plan, health research and federal grant funding. Ed has served as the Washington legislative representative of the Catholic Hospital Association.
Ed has been a frequent speaker on health law topics at seminars and taskforce meetings of the American Health Lawyers Association, the District of Columbia Hospital Association, and the Academy of Medicine of Washington, DC. He is a founding member of the American Society of Hospital Attorneys.
