Appellate argument differs greatly from argument at the trial level. Similarly, appellate brief writing differs from the pleadings filed in trial courts. At Carr Maloney, only attorneys with the appropriate skills represent clients at the appellate level. We believe this maximizes the effectiveness of the representation offered to each client.
Clients seek our services because of our experience and skill in the appellate
arena. Our appellate attorneys have more than forty years of combined
experience. At the state level, we regularly handle appeals in the
intermediate and highest courts in Maryland and Virginia, and the District
of Columbia Court of Appeals.
We have also appeared before state appellate
courts in Texas, New York, Iowa and Washington, among others. On the
federal level, we have appeared in the Supreme Court of the United States
and the United States Circuit Courts for the Federal, District of Columbia,
Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Circuits. Many of these cases resulted in
important precedents.
We handle appeals arising out of cases originating in the firm, and those brought to the firm post-trial for the specific purpose of the appeal. Our clients also frequently retain our services to enter appeals as Amicus Curiae to influence and impact national and regional issues.
Our attorneys are counsel of record in over 100 reported decisions. To access a list of these decisions, click here. To access a list of the most significant decisions, click here.
