WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 3, 2013) Carr Maloney P.C. is pleased to announce that member Jan E. Simonsen was named 2013 Lawyer of the Year by the D.C. Defense Lawyers’ Association (DCDLA) at the organization’s monthly dinner meeting on September 19.

“We are very proud that Jan’s accomplishments are being recognized by the D.C. Defense Lawyers’ Association,” said William Carter, who serves as managing attorney at the firm. “Her tireless efforts on behalf of her clients strengthen the firm as well as the legal community as a whole.”

The D.C. Defense Lawyers’ Association consists of lawyers who devote substantial time to the defense of civil cases in the District of Columbia courts. The association’s mission includes: elevating the standards of trial practice, eliminating delays in civil litigation, and increasing the quality of service that the legal system provides to the community. Simonsen received the honor for her excellent record as a litigator and her work as a liability and risk management adviser to clients in the retail industry. In addition, the award also recognized her past record of service to the DCDLA, including a term as president, and her leadership in various bar and professional organizations.

Simonsen focuses her practice on mass and toxic tort litigation,  retail litigation and professional liability. Her clients include retailers, manufacturers and professionals, and she represents clients in state and federal courts and in multi-district litigation. Her approach is marked by looking at the “big picture” in each case, and by trying to resolve disputes in a manner that is in her clients’ best interests—not only from a legal perspective, but from a business perspective as well.
